Wearing Anna Sui In Autumn

The coming of Autumn has always been exciting with the mere existence of Anna Sui's Fall 1994. With girls taking inspiration from the teen movie icon Cher Horowitz, plaid skirts, knee high socks and platform shoes sound ever so thrilling. It's the fact that her cultural knowledge when it comes to fashion is very in depth. “When I'm interested in something, I want to know everything about it.” she says. Her love for not only vintage yet also current trends makes her unique. Making her adoration for fashion even more interesting and apparent. According to her, she enjoys the process of having to do her research and looking behind cultural trends. Known to set trends inspired by fairytales, Victorian, punk, grunge, schoolgirl, retro, rock-star and even hippie, she causes an earthquake in the entire fashion world.

In her famous words she says, "You have to focus on your dreams, even if they go beyond common sense. How could this young girl from the suburbs of Detroit become a success in New York? It was always (because of) that dream." This is what inspired me, the writer of this blog post, to start my journey in the fashion journalist career. Just like her, I was completely "obsessed" and my parents were thankfully able to put up with me and be patient enough to hand me a distracted yet loving "good job." Quite interestingly enough, many can relate to her love for fashion and moodboards. One of her moodboards have been on display in the Fashion and Textile Museum, creating a visual representation of where she gets her inspiration from.

Anna adores fashion as much as she did as a little girl or even more. Being a four year old didn't stop her from becoming a designer of her own clothes. She made a promise to herself to never repeat the same outfit in a year. Well, her obsession granted her her dream as she was accepted to the Parsons School of Design in New York. Truth is, she wasn't just in love with fashion or the mere idea of it. She was moved by it and her loyalty to it became a commitment and a devotion. She is forever an inspiration to the youth and the grown alike. To never stop dreaming and turning your passions into a reality.
